The Friends of AIDS Foundation (FOA) Foundation unveiled an aggressive three year plan to
improve HIV/AIDS programs and services and reduce the spread of new infections. "This strategic
vision will help FOA chart our course over the next three years and measure our success in serving
those living with and at risk for HIV/AIDS", said Anthony Bongiorno, President and Founder of The
Friends of AIDS Foundation.
* We will deepen community ties and promote individual empowerment to reduce HIV transmission
and improve HIV/AIDS programs and services.
* We will maximize resources to meet the changing needs of people living with and at risk for
HIV/AIDS and ensure that the HIV/AIDS prevention and care services we provide are of the highest
quality.
* We will advocate for increased government resources for HIV/AIDS services, science based HIV
prevention strategies, and public policies and laws that help decrease HIV/AIDS stigma and protect
the rights of people living with this disease.
* We will conduct effective fundraising to expand private support for HIV/AIDS programs and
services. With a committed staff, board, and volunteers, we will sustain the work of the organization
by producing high quality, profitable events, and secure new sources of individual, corporate and
foundation support.
* We will collaborate with other organizations to help people with HIV/AIDS pursue economic
independence. We will advocate for expanded government programs that help people with HIV/AIDS
enter or return to the workforce without jeopardizing their healthcare. We will also work with other
agencies to provide disabled individuals meaningful ways to contribute to the fight against HIV/AIDS
as volunteers or interns.
* We will work with other agencies and advocate for people over 50 who are living with or at risk for
HIV/AIDS to ensure adequate response to their unique needs.
* We will address the HIV/AIDS crisis in communities by raising awareness and a sense of urgency.
We will strive to reduce new HIV infections and improve health outcomes among people of diverse
communities by strengthening partnerships with lawmakers, other agencies, private businesses,
and religious organizations.
* We will address substance abuse, homophobia, homelessness, and other factors that impede
access to HIV/AIDS healthcare and social services.
* We will advocate for prevention and care services tailored to women living with and at risk for
HIV/AIDS. We will support efforts to develop affordable, accessible, and effective female-controlled
prevention methods.
* We will advocate for science- based HIV/AIDS prevention and care services to meet the needs of
youth. We will advocate to expand comprehensive school-based sexuality and HIV/AIDS prevention
education that is accurate and age appropriate. We will be committed to supporting increased
government funding for science-based HIV/AIDS prevention, healthcare, housing, and other social
services tailored to runaways, homeless, and at risk youth.
* We will strengthen efforts throughout California to reduce HIV infections among men who have sex
with men. We will work with other agencies to address and promote harm-reduction and
risk-reduction strategies.
* We will ensure that people living with HIV/AIDS or at risk play a crucial role in FOA's policy and
program development. We will also actively recruit people living with HIV/AIDS to become leaders
throughout our organization.
* We will ensure that the skills and experiences of the service community inform and drive FOA's
policy and program development. In addition, we will also draw on our contacts and expertise to
identify best practice models and joint opportunities among non HIV/AIDS specific entities to benefit
those affected by HIV/AIDS.
* We will raise awareness about the HIV/AIDS pandemic to counter apathy and mobilize action. We
will continue to inform decision makers, leaders, community members, and the media about current
and emerging HIV/AIDS issues. We will support allied organizations in their efforts to address the
global HIV/AIDS pandemic. We will share expertise and best practices to reduce the spread of this
pandemic.
* We will advocate for increased funding for substance abuse treatment, prevention, and other harm
reduction programs and services that address HIV/AIDS and drug usage.
* We will advocate for policies and programs that reduce HIV transmission and improve healthcare
for incarcerated populations.
About The Friends of AIDS Foundation
The Friends of AIDS Foundation is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for individuals infected
with HIV/AIDS and committed to preventing the future spread of this disease. FOA programs and
services utilize the harm reduction philosophy, which provides the necessary information, options
and support, so that individuals can make healthy choices and prevent the transmission of HIV.
At The Friends of AIDS Foundation, we strive to eradicate HIV/AIDS by creating awareness, delivering
the crucial message: HIV DOES NOT DISCRIMINATE, and helping individuals create the social
change that is necessary to end this epidemic.
